Big Fish (movie review)
by Naufal Ubaidillah
Full
of surprises and things of beauty, this movie is a sweet memory for me. The
story is told between a man and his son, but the main story is the father’s
life story. He lived a somewhat intriguing life. What I meant by intriguing is
the way his life unfolded. Meeting a giant, stumbling on a hilarious little
town where he had to give up his shoes. Being told that he was expected there.
Those
are really things that stood out from the movie. These kind of things are what
make you remember a particular movie. These details bring you the fond moments
when you were watching it. You start to think, put some old informations back
to your brain processors. Just like opening old photos with your old lovers,
with your family, with your football team. It’s kind of a primary needs
nowadays, to be able to feel those things. Without feeling thins like that, we
can not be wholly human. We would be trapped in the circling ice ball of life,
without a chance to take a grasp of what is actually happening. These vintage
moments is where you stop for a while, breathe slower, and look at things more
intently, more carefully. You search little details that could start some kind
of change.
This
movie is a perfect stimulant for that.
At
the end of the movie, when the main man was dying, he happily listened to the
made-up story told by his son. Yes, the one where the man was awaited by all of
his family and friends, just before a lake. After reaching the lake, he was
relieved to the blue waters. With peace, he surrendered, and became a big fish
he did.
